E-mail is the new enterprise favourite

A survey from the Menlo Park, California-based staffing service company OfficeTeam released today revealed that e-mail is fast becoming the predominant mode of communication in the enterprise.

Sixty-five per cent of respondees preferred to receive e-mail over other types of communication, which is up from 34 per cent ten years ago.

Face-to-face meetings (31 per cent), paper memos (three per cent), and voicemail (one per cent) have become less popular during that time period; a decade ago, face-to-face meetings were the most preferred method, with 44 per cent of the respondents choosing it, and e-mail coming in second place (34 per cent), and paper memo (12 per cent) and voice mail (seven per cent) trailing behind.
