Cologix expands its downtown Montreal data centre

By Catherine Morin

Data centre colocation and network solution provider Cologix announced last week the expansion of one of its data centres in downtown Montreal, known as MTL7, bringing the facility’s total capacity to 3.1 MW within 26,000 square feet.

With 10 data centres in the Greater Montreal area, Cologix gives organizations of all sizes direct access to cloud service providers such as Amazon Web Services Direct Connect, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute, IBM Cloud, and Oracle FastConnect.

Enterprises can access over 100 networks with low latency connectivity using the Meet-Me-Room at Cologix’s MTL3 facility, which is powered by high-count fiber and Metro Connect services.

Bill Fathers, chairman and CEO of Cologix, declared that the Dallas-based company continues to invest in Montreal to support the increasing needs of its customers, which namely include wholesalers and hyperscale organizations.

“With low cost, hydro-powered renewable energy, strong government incentives, and major cloud provider investment, Montreal is an important market for Cologix,” he added.

Fathers also suggested the additional capacity will help Cologix’s customers develop, manage, and modulate their workloads quickly and seamlessly.

As local and global companies seek to reduce their carbon footprints, Montreal’s green hydropower resources make the city an increasingly strategic location to build data centres, according to Sean Maskell, president Cologix Canada.

The company has also created massive interconnection hubs in Toronto and Vancouver over the last decade, thus becoming the most significant data centre provider in the country.

Founded in 2010, Cologix currently delivers network solutions to over 1,600 customers across North America from 29 interconnection hubs and 5 hyperscale capacity facilities.
