Pure play security vendor Check Point software Technologies aims to boost its mobile security offerings by purchasing Israeli-based Lacoon Mobile Security for “tens of millions of dollars.”
Check Point (NASDAQ: CHKP), which is also headquartered in Israel, offers a complete security architecture for enterprise businesses and protects over 100,000 organizations around the world.
Lacoon is a leading provider of comprehensive security solutions for iOS and Android mobile devices. Its solution has the best advanced threat catch-rate for enterprise mobile security platforms, according to Check Point. Lacoon, which was founded in 2011, has a staff of 40 people and can support up to 300,000 mobile devices.
Gail Swed, CEO of Check Point, said mobility has become the norm in business operation although many companies are “not protecting the data on mobile devices properly.”
“Traditional MDM strategies acknowledge the existence of mobile devices, but miss an important factor: protecting those devices, and the data on them, from threats,” he said in a statement. “The addition of Lacoon, the leader in mobile threat prevention, would allow us to provide our customers the most complete mobile security solution on the market.”
In an interview with Reuter’s, Sweb did not disclose the total amount of the deal but said it amounted to tens of millions of dollars.
This is the second acquisition made by Check Point this year. In February, the company purchased Israeli-based startup Hyperwise.
