Certicom licenses cryptography technology to IdentiPHI

Certicom Corp. of Mississauga, Ont. is licensing its Elliptic Curve Cryptography technology to IdentiPHI Inc., which will use ECC in its Enterprise Security Suite of biometric and smart card products.

Austin, Tex.-based IdentiPHI plans to use ECC so its products can comply with Suite B, a set of cryptographic algorithms recommended by the National Security Agency (NSA), the U.S. government’s secretive electronic communications surveillance organization.

In 2005, the NSA ECC as a means of protecting both classified and unclassified government documents. IdentiPHI’s products include enterprise authentication, single sign-on and endpoint management for Suite B compliance.

Through the licensing agreement, IdentiPHI customers will meet the NSA recommendations for Suite B cryptography. ECC, a public key cryptography technology, is used in networking, consumer electronics, wireless devices and semiconductors. Certicom says the technology is licensed to more than 300 customers.
