Canadian, French math experts study IT security

Canadian researchers are collaborating with their French counterparts to apply mathematics to IT security.

The Mathematics of Information Technology and Complex Systems (MITACS) and the Consulate General of France in Canada on Thursday said they were meeting in Vancouver for a two-day session that will end Friday but lead to a deeper, long-term partnership.

The delegation includes representatives from l’Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (INRIA) and Ottawa’s Carleton University.

Workshop discussions will revolve around mathematical security from encryption, coding, networking and software verification to applications in wireless devices, MITACS said.

The two partners will also set up student exchanges between the two countries.
