With the proliferation of mixed virtual, physical and cloud environments, data protection and recovery have become much more complex and difficult to manage. But CA Technologies is hoping that its latest release can resolve some of the headaches of network security managers.
The company just announced the addition of Unified Data Protection (UDP) to its arcserve data protection software portfolio. CA says UDP enhances the security of mixed environments and reduces the cost and complexity of managing multiple point solutions.
The unified architecture, and the recovery point server, support data protection for physical and virtual environments through a web-based user console. More than 30 new marquee features allow businesses and service providers to tailor functionality to the desired service level and recovery objectives.
“CA arcserve UDP is the most significant release of arcserve to date,” said Mike Crest, general manager of data management for CA Technologies. “Architected from the ground up to deliver data protection simplicity, CA arcserve UDP allows businesses to reduce complexity and mitigate rising costs without sacrificing functionality. Simply put, it renders ‘point solutions’ obsolete.”
CA lists some of the features:
- A range of enterprise-level functionality, including image and file-based backup, tape support, replication, and high availability, under one roof.
- Workflow-based protection plans make it easier for users to “dial in” the desired level of protection.
- The package is available in five editions offering different protection regimes.
- Pricing is based on a flexible per-terabyte or per-socket basis for both physical and virtual systems.
- The solution spans Windows, Linux and UNIX systems.
The core of CA arcserve UDP is a new recovery point server (RPS), which combines global source-side de-duplication, integrated block-level replication, AES 256-bit level encryption and cascading retention policies. CA says that the recovery point server means that arcserve UDP can provide extended virtual machine protection with agent-less protection for VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V environments as well as assured recovery through local and virtual remote standby and automated, non-disruptive disaster recovery testing and reporting.
Continuous full-system replication and high availability enables faster recovery of an entire system, including business applications, files and data on both virtual and physical systems, CA (Nasdaq: CA) says. CA arcserve UDP offers support for major cloud platforms, with recovery, migration or replication of complete systems, applications or data available from cloud to cloud.
The company also provided a customer experience from a Canadian company.
