Fluke Networks Canada, a network diagnostics firm in Mississauga, Ont., now offers “Business in a Box,” a package that gives electrical contractors and network managers the tools and know-how to care for multimedia cabling. The product includes MicroScanner Pro, a device for coaxial and twisted copper wire checks, as well as an instructive CD-ROM, which teaches voice, video and data applications, explains cable types and deals with preparation, termination and installation standards. The MicroScanner Pro is a member of Fluke’s SuperVision Solution line – devices built by Microtest Inc. and re-packaged under the Fluke brand name. The SuperVision family includes the MicroProbe for finding hidden cables, the MicroMapper for LAN integrity and the MicroNetBlink for identifying ports. Available this month, Business in a Box starts at $687. For more information consult Fluke Networks’ Web site at http://www.flukenetworks.com.

For those with neither the time to deploy complicated network protection, nor the money for dedicated security devices, Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. presents the SecurePlatform Media Pack. This CD-ROM created by the Redwood City, Calif.-based software firm offers quick installs of the SecurePlatform products, including a VPN and firewall, connectivity protection and even “gigabit-speed” security for data centres and ISPs, the company said, adding that the software installs in less than 10 minutes. The product also has its own “hardened, customized” operating system. According to Check Point, the package is designed to turn any PC or server on the network into a security appliance. This scenario should foster the requisite level of protection without requiring the purchase of a dedicated security device, the firm said. As well, the offering speaks to a growing need for simple protection, what with IT resources strained at many firms. Pricing for the SecurePlatform Media Pack was not available at press time.
