Bell probes data theft of 3.4 million client records

The arrest of a Montreal man charged with the theft of personal information on 3.4 million Bell Canada customers across Quebec and Ontario has the carrier investigating the scope of the security breach.

Bell said the information stolen included names, addresses, telephone numbers and the Bell services to which they were subscribers, according to a Canadian Press report. The data was recovered from a Montreal home. Credit card numbers, billing and PINs were not lost in the breach, Bell told CP.

The identity of the 30-year-old Montreal man charged with the data theft was not revealed. Bell first learned of the incident in January.
