Avaya pushes low-cost unified communications

Avaya on Monday said it will offer more than half a dozen products that would bring unified communications to remote, mobile and branch office users for US$0.15 a day.

The seven products include Unified Communications Solutions for Teleworkers, Intelligent Branch and vertical-specific branch products for banks and retail customers. Avaya is following close on the heels of rival Nortel Networks, which offered its own set of unified communications products in partnership with Microsoft last week.

Avaya also released what it called “intelligent presence” software that collects information from Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Sametime and works across multiple protocols to provide updates on user availability. A client product for the desktop, Avaya one-X Communicator, will include both IP softphone and session initiation protocol (SIP) software capabilities, as well as video features.
