Australian govt launches IT careers Web site

Australian special minister of state Gary Nairn has launched a new ICT career awareness program in the form of the IT Pro Australia Web site.

The site’s purpose is to help to highlight opportunities within the Australian public service (APS) in ICT.

The federal government has partnered with CompTIA which is responsible for the Web site administration.

The site will promote ICT careers in the Australian public service and provide other local information, including job vacancies, salary scales, skills in demand, and trend reports.

Training information will also be provided in addition to ICT industry news.

Nairn said the Web pages profile career opportunities and also spotlights individuals within the public service who have chosen a career where they can apply their ICT skills and experience.

“It provides those considering an ICT career with the facts on why becoming an ICT professional in the public services makes a lot of sense,” he said. “It focuses on such benefits as work-hour flexibility and employer supported training as just some of the reasons why joining the APS is sensible.”

CompTIA will provide all staffing, administration and tools for IT Pro Australia.
