AMD launches Ryzen 3000-series and “Picasso” A-series mobile processors

AMD revealed its Ryzen 3000 series and “Picasso” A-series mobile processors at CES 2019 in Las Vegas.

The new AMD Ryzen H-series and U-series processors are designed for the full laptop performance stack. The H-series have higher TDP, and will be used in gaming laptops and high-performance workstations. The U-series have a keener focus on power consumption, and will therefore be used in ultrathins and mainstream devices.

In its press release, AMD states that the Ryzen 7 3700 can edit media up to 29 per cent faster than the Intel Core i7-8700U and offer up to 10 hours of video playback time.

Name Cores/Threads TDP Boost/Base clock Graphics GPU Cores GPU Clock L2+L3 Cache
AMD Ryzen 7 3750H 4C/8T 35W 4.0GHz / 2.3 GHz Vega 10 1,400 MHz 6MB
AMD Ryzen 7 3000U 4C/8T 15W 4.0GHz / 2.3 GHz Vega 10 1,400 MHz 6MB
AMD Ryzen 5 3550H 4C/8T 35W 3.7 GHz / 2.1 GHz Vega 8 1,200 MHz 6MB
AMD Ryzen 5 3500U 4C/8T 15W 3.7 GHz / 2.1 GHz Vega 8 1,200 MHz 6MB
AMD Ryzen 3 3300U 4C/4T 15W 3.5 GHz / 2.1 GHz Vega 6 1,200 MHz 6MB
AMD Ryzen 3 3200U 2C/4T 15W 3.5 GHz / 2.6 GHz Vega 3 1,200 MHz 5MB
AMD Athlon 300U 2C/4T 15W 3.3 GHz / 2.4 GHz Vega 3 1,000 MHz 5MB

The chips are built upon the AMD Zen+ microarchitecture. As an improvement to the original Zen architecture, Zen+ uses more refined transistors and have improved self-overclocking capabilities. In addition, it also amends the cache and memory latency issues in the original Zen. All chips will use AMD Radeon Vega graphics.

The AMD Ryzen 3000-series mobile processors will be available in Q1 2019 in devices from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Huawei, Lenovo, and Samsung.
