Agencies act on online counterfeit sales

Tired of worrying whether the Web site you’re visiting is safe? Some governments are doing something about it.

U.S. and European agencies this week seized 132 domain names that were allegedly used to sell counterfeit goods online, PCWorld reports.

In a news release the U.S. government said this is the third year its Intellectual Property Rights Center has targeted Web sites selling counterfeit goods in conjuction with Cyber Monday, the day after American Thanksgiving when a number of retailers post online deals. But this was the first year the IPRC worked with Europol, the European Police Office.
