As a busy holiday shopping season kicks off this week with Black Friday, Google Canada is revealing the top Canadian Black Friday and Cyber Monday search trends.

According to Google’s trends, 49 per cent of Canadians said they expect the COVID-19 pandemic to impact their shopping plans throughout the holidays, and 58 per cent plan to do another year of holiday shopping online.

For some consumers, online shopping is a good way to “window shop” before heading to the mall. Google revealed that 46 per cent of shoppers get inspiration for purchases while browsing online and 51 per cent of shoppers seek out deals and promotions online before making a trip to the store.

Some Canadians are making new plans when it comes to where they buy their gifts; 49 per cent of shoppers want to be more thoughtful about where they shop, and 45 per cent are looking to shop new stores and brands this season.

While 38 per cent of shoppers are trying to make an effort to shop locally, especially after the impact the pandemic had on small businesses, 22 per cent said they will only buy from environmentally conscious or sustainable brands.

The Google report also revealed the most searched electronics over the past two weeks.

Here is the rundown:
