Smart SOA: Achieving Your Organizational Objectives Through Intelligent IT

September 18, 2008 – Ottawa, Ontario
Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a next-generation framework for computing that many Canadian business enterprises have investigated. Governments are likewise examining the potential that SOA may have in supporting computing uniformity and the creation of a highly integrated environment. SOA supports business computing that allows different applications on disparate systems to be used by a multitude of end users through a common “service” interface such as a Web-based portal or Internet browser “front end.” SOA loosely couples together business applications that may have previously been unlinked and typically not integrated. It’s an all-in-one, highly efficient computing approach.

SOA addresses the need by Canadian organizations to achieve process integration and systems efficiency – the top technology priority for business that was cited by senior IT executives in IT World Canada’s 2008 State-of-the-CIO study. SOA serves as the key computing environment for leveraging Business Process Management (BPM).

The discussion focused on:

  • What can be done with SOA today – how to get started
  • How can SOA help achieve legacy integration
  • SOA and government – what are the specific values and benefits
  • Real-life Canadian examples of SOA
  • SOA and governance
