Lighter Panasonic Toughbook 54 retains strength, durability

Laptop users love the Panasonic Toughbook for its dependability and durability. Lugging it around, however could be challenge.

Take the Toughbook 53 for instance. The 14-inch machine comes in at over 2.5 kilograms.

For 2015, Panasonic has trimmed down its Toughbook 54 (now it’s just 1.9 kilograms) but made sure the laptop remains strong as ever. The company has also doubled memory capacity to 16GB and included a spare bay for additional storage.

The Toughbook has a magnesium allow chassis that enables it to withstand drops of just under one meter high. It has an expanded battery life of 11 hours with one battery and 18 hours will an auxiliary battery.

It can be configured to include a 1TB hard drive in one slot and a 250GB solid state drive in a second slot. Base model comes with a 720p screen with upgrade to a full HD version available.

Other features include an AMD graphics card, 802.11ac Wi-Fi with optional 4GT LTE, as well as USB 3.0, HDI and Ethernet slots.

Available with either Windows 7 professional or Windows 8.1, the Toughbook 54’s starting price is US$1,499.
