Windows 7 Leak Confirmed (VS) that Penguin

Windows 7. It’s ready, but it’s under construction

Ubuntu 9.04. I’d install Ubuntu just to get this desktop background.

Further to my entry about Windows 7, Microsoft confirmed that May 5 is the day the RC (Release Candidate) will be available.

Look for “Build 7100″. This release candidate is the last major pre-releasetest version, so it states two things to me: Windows 7 will be releasedbefore 2010, and quite possibly before school starts. This is importantfor the company because students buy computers at this time. Second,Windows 7 is stable enough to reach that deadline.

Not to be outdone, and as I mentioned before, Ubuntu released another version of its Linux, 9.04.

Ubuntu 9.04. How can you NOT have a system with that penguin?

Ubuntu. It’s free. It was available this past Thursday.

I’ve used, configured, and installed Ubuntu for friends after theircomputer became horribly crippled by viruses and malware under WindowsXP.

This is another significant milestone for Ubuntu. Is this OS in theshadows of Windows 7? I don’t think so. Ubuntu is open source, and opensource is free. You can’t beat free, but you can be beat by theconvenience of the mass support from Microsoft 7/Vista and especiallyXP. Still, those saavy enough to have a family member or friend whoknows how to install Ubuntu will be quite happy to use this operatingsystem.

Ubuntu is virtually unbreakable. Just about zero viruses are possible (expressed as a % of those designed for Windows).

Ubuntu 9.04 boots as fast as 25 seconds, its developers say. It’sgot cloud support, OpenOffice 3.0, it has support for Skype and AdobeFlash, and developers have improved enhanced suspend and resumecapabilities. There’s even faster switching between WiFi and 3G. Ubuntudevelopers are clearly aiming for the mobile market.

Disclosure: Long Microsoft as illustrated on kaChing.
