Who’s scared of Microsoft?

By: IT News Blog

Programmer and venture capitalistPaul Graham sent many keyboards a clicking when he opined recently that “Microsoft is dead” because no one is scared of the software behemoth any longer. In a world of Google, Web 2.0 and AJAX, Graham contends no one needs to fear the Redmond, Was.-based giant any longer.

Those are fighting words, and other bloggers were quick to weigh in. PC World's Harry McCracken says Microsoft isn't dead yet, but they need to quickly start to adapt to a new Web 2.0 world. Paul Thurrott argues Microsoft is like McCartney post-Beatles, its Wings era is still to come. Tony Hung isn't buying it, saying reports of Microsoft's death have been greatly exaggerated, while Duncan Riley declares Graham Mayor of Fantasyland.
