Who is your top channel newsmaker of 2009?

It’s hard to believe but yes, it’s that time of year again:time to compile the list of the Top 25 Newsmakers of the past year in Canada’sIT channel.

Last year, CDN awarded the top spot for 2008 to Grant Aitkenof VMware Canada, with virtualization and VMware taking the channel and the IT industryin Canada by storm. Close runners-up to Aitken were Julie Parrish for her moveto NetApp and a busy and productive year at Symantec, as well as HP Canada’sDave Frederickson who, before passing the channel chief reigns to Greg Chappell, had a big year revamping HP Canada’s partner programs and integrating the EDS Corp. acquisition. The economy was also tapped as the issue of the year.

Right now, the CDN editorial team is at work compiling itspicks for the top newsmakers in the channel for 2009, but we’d like your inputtoo. What are your choices for the top newsmakers of 2009?

It was certainly a busy year. Would you single-out SunMicrosystems and its acquisition by Oracle Corp.? What about Microsoft with Windows 7 and other product news, or Westcon’s expansion with Cisco Systems?Cisco also had a busy year and so did last year’s winner, VMware. There was JimEsill’s move to Nu Horizons, the acquisitions of The Source and Black’s by Bell andTelus, and a recycling fee program that took Ontario by surprise. And, of course, let’s not forget the break-up of a Canadian technology giant, Nortel Networks. And much, much more.

We’d like to hear your choices for Top Newsmakers of 2009.Send us your picks and, more importantly, tell us why they’re newsworthy. Ifyou’re willing, please include your full name, company and title and yoursubmission may be published in a future edition of CDN.
