Throw out your case, your phone should repair itself

If it works, Toray Advanced Film might put a whole bunch of businesses – and Mall booths – out of business. The invention is a special film that could surround, protect a smartphone and even regrow itself.

It might not take a bullet, or even a slapshot, but the film would allow devices to better survive the little bumps and bashes that are seemingly unavoidable.

Better still, in about ten seconds – at room temperature – it can heal itself, a process that is repeatable 20,000 times.

But it's not time to toss out your Portal 2 iPhone case quite yet. For now, the product is being used on a few laptop models and in various special cases. Production has begun in earnest, however, so look out for Toray Advanced Film's product to show up everywhere soon.
