A Boston anaesthesiologist has come up with what will likely be themost sought-after Game Boy accessory on the market — a retrofit for anitrous oxide cannister.
“PediSedateis a medical device consisting of a colorful, toy-like headset thatconnects to a game component such as the Nintendo Game Boy system or aportable CD player,” according to the company Web site. “Once the childplaces it on his or her head and swings the snorkel down from itsresting place atop the head, PediSedate transparently monitorsrespiratory function and distributes nitrous oxide, an anesthetic gas.The child comfortably becomes sedated while playing with a NintendoGame Boy system or listening to music.”
Last time I was comfortably sedated while playing a Game Boy, it involved Skittles-infused vodka, but I digress.
Geoffrey Hart, the anaesthesiologist inquestion, is the founder of the company. The device has won two awardsfor medical product innovation. It’s in a second round of clinicaltrials.
