TerreStar Networks Canada Inc. said last week is has finished testing the S Band reflector on its recently-launched satellite, but is not saying when its service will launch.
The satellite, dubbed TerreStar-1, was launched last month and is designed to provide voice, video and data service to handsets capable of operating on both cellular and satellite networks.
Now that in-orbit testing is complete, the company plans to start ground based beam forming (GBBF) testing. The firm stated in a press release that GBBF is capable of generatin more than 500 simultaneous spot beams.
TerreStar executives were not immediately available for comment and would not give details on pricing or an estimate of when commercial service would start.
Target markets include public safety agencies and surveillance.
