Tandberg asa has taken the wraps off its Advanced Media Gateway, which it says allows Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 users to and collaborate in high-definition with other standards-based video and telepresence users.
“The Advanced Media Gateway (AM GW) is a significant step in delivering on our vision to provide business-quality video access for everyone,” said Tandberg CEO Fredrik Halvorsen in a news release. “By enabling ubiquitous HD video between Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 and standards-based video, we are helping companies leverage their existing collaboration infrastructure to deliver an optimal video experience to everyone from familiar tools. This is critical for creating an open video community where individuals and teams can easily collaborate in high-definition.”
Tandberg, which is in the process of being acquired by Cisco Systems Inc., says the AM GW can transcode Microsoft’s Real Time Video (RTV) format to the industry standard H.264. That enables HD video and audio interoperability between OCS R2 and other standards-based systems.
The initial model of the AM GW is the stackable 3610, which can handle up to 10 simultaneous HD video calls or up to 20 simultaneous VGA calls. Video resolution goes up to HD 720p at 30fps. The amount of bandwidth per call used goes up to 4 Mbps. Full transcoding is used on every call, with no packed forwarding.
The news release gave no pricing information.
