I don’t think many of you will agree with that headline, but apparently Oracle does.
Thesoftware giant is actually delaying its Oct. 13 security patch releasefor one week in order to avoid a conflict with Oracle’s OpenWorldconference. The event is being held in San Francisco from Oct. 11 to 15.
Oraclesaid it was delaying the patches, which are rolled out to databaseadministrators on a set schedule every three months, to give itscustomers a chance to attend the conference without having to worryabout “deploying the Critical Patch Update within their respectiveorganizations.”
While it’s nice to see a vendor cutting itscustomers a break like this, Oracle should probably rename this patchupdate. It’s not really “critical” if it can wait a week, is it?
