Research in Motion ended its fiscal year on a healthy note, with revenue of $3.46 billion (all figures in U.S. dollars), up 24.5 per cent from the previous quarter. For the company's fiscal year, which ended Feb. 28, the Waterloo, Ont., handset maker pulled in $11.07 billion, up 84 per cent from the previous 12 month period. During the most recent year it sold 26 million devices.
Net income for the year ending Feb. 28 was $1.89 billion.
“RIM experienced an extraordinary year in fiscal 2009, shipping our 50 millionth BlackBerry smartphone and generating $11 billion in revenue. Looking ahead into fiscal 2010, we see exceptional opportunities for RIM and its partners to leverage the investments and success of the past year to continue growing market share and profitability.”
Approximately 3.9 million net new BlackBerry subscriber accounts were added in the fourth quarter. About 25 million people are toting around a BlackBerry.
