Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. of Winnipeg announced this week that Dean Prevost, the company’s chief corporate officer, will take over as president of its Enterprise Solutions division, also known as Allstream.
The company said in October the current Enterprise Solutions president, John A. MacDonald, will retire Dec. 1.
MTS bought Allstream, formerly AT&T Canada, in 2004, after the Toronto-based competitive local exchange carrier emerged from bankruptcy protection. MacDonald joined AT&T Canada in 2002, at a time when CLECs were dropping like flies after spending a fortune on infrastructure and business development, only to find revenues were not covering costs.
AT&T Canada grew into CLEC, long-distance carrier and Internet service provider through the merger of MetroNet Communications Corp, Netcom Canada and AT&T Canada Long Distance Co.
As MTS’s Allstream division, the company today provides IT consulting and security services, as well as a 24,300-km fibre network.
Prevost, who has an MBA from Harvard, joined AT&T Canada in 1997 and has been Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Marketing
Officer. Once he becomes president, he will be replaced as chief corporate officer by Chris Peirce, who is Allstream’s chief regulatory officer.
