Overland appliance melds replication, WAN optimization

Overland Storage, Inc.has brought out the REO Business Continuity Appliance, an all-in-onesolution that offers small and medium-sized businesses what the companysays is a highly affordable, streamlined device for protectingmission-critical applications and data as well as physical and virtualserver environments. The BCA leverages Seattle-based Overland’s REOSeries disk-based backup and recovery VTL to integrate a single,appliance for both continuous local backup and remote disaster recovery.

It comes in two configurations: REO BCA 100, a 1u appliance thatstarts with support for up to five application servers; and REO BCA200, a 2u appliance that starts with support for up to 10 applicationservers. Application server filter drivers can be installed on new andexisting application servers, requiring less than one percent resourceutilization. Prices start at USD $24,000.

The solution integrates with Windows/Linux file services, MicrosoftExchange and SQL as well as complete support of virtualizedenvironments, including VMware, and Hyper-V. It offers non-disruptiveserver, application and data migration for maximizing existing and newinfrastructure investments, as well as server, storage and networkhardware independence to facilitate tiered storage strategies forrobust disaster recovery. It also comes with centralized management andreporting, including an Environmental Profiler for analyzing data,network and storage resource utilization.
