Yes, it IS true. Last night, at 8:08PM Microsoft confirmed that a“virtualized” Windows XP Mode will be delivered as part of the Windows7 core build, to help address a big pain point many had with Vista -compatibility.
Windows 7 comes with a Microsoft Virtual PC powered Windows XP under the hood
As someone who has 5 computers in the house, all of which runningWindows XP (that by the way, have been for the most part configured tolook like Windows 2000), this is good news and signals to this blogger,that Microsoft really is finally listening to its customers, bothbusiness and consumer. Over the years, we all know Microsoft hashanded Change Managementvery poorly. The “Build It And They Will Come” or “Thou shalt upgradeNOW to {insert product of choice} Because We Told You So”. This“change in policy”, albeit perhaps too late, is a sign that Microsoftfinally recognizes this is a question now of ”Windows” extinction.
The confirmation last night came in this Microsoft blog— the process appears quite straight forward. You would bring up a“Windows XP” window within Windows 7 that would be powered by a new“Microsoft Virtual PC For Windows 7 Professional” product. Onceinstalled, the application would then be “published” to the Windows 7desktop where they would be executed…going forward, appearing as afully integrated “Windows 7″ installed application. Sweet.
Now all we need is a “Apple Mode” and “Linux Mode” and maybe a “Google Android Mode” and we’d be all set.
