CA recently released a study that found that many mainframe operators are retiring just as the need for mainframe personnel is on the rise.
The InfoPro study surveyed 270 senior IT execs from Fortune 2000 companies around the world and found that 80 per cent had mainframe staff that were eligible for retirement now or over the next couple of years.
Sixty-three per cent of respondents also said, however, that mainframe spending would increase over the next two years, causing a gap in mainframe IT talent.
Management tasks in mainframe management that could suffer fallout include security (55 per cent), storage (47 per cent), workload management (46 per cent), and database management (26 per cent).
