IT World Canada earns online honours

I'm happy to announce that both ITWorldCanada.com and ITBusiness.ca emerged as winners this week in the first-ever Canadian Online Publishing Awards.

ITWorldCanada.com won for Best News Site in the B2B category, while ITBusiness.ca won for Best Online-Only Web site in the B2B category. The winners were announced at a gala celebration at the Gladstone Hotel downtown.

Produced by North Island Publishing, the Canadian Online Publishing Awards (COPAs) drew entries from scores of consumer and trade magazines.

I should note that while we are developing our new Enterprise Publishing Platform, which will doubtlessly boost our online capabilities, the COPAs were focused on editorial quality, the yardstick by which we measure our success in delivering the most timely, relevant and in-depth information to help IT professionals succeed in the Canadian market. For anyone who reads our sites regularly, these awards should come as no surprise. Whether it's Greg and Howards' tireless efforts in covering the Nortel story, ITBusiness.ca's ownership of the story about a cell phone ban for car drivers or even last week's collective efforts around the coverage of Windows 7, we have a high-peformance team here.

These awards recognize the extrordinary efforts put forward by Dave Webb, Joaquim Menezes and Greg Meckbach, along with their staff: Howard Solomon, Nestor Arellano, Kathleen Lau, Rafael Ruffolo, Brian Jackson and Jennifer Kavur.

Several years ago IT World Canada decided as a corporation to take a “Web first” approach to the changing publishing industry. Our success in these awards is one way to demonstrate how far we've come. Thank you to all our readers for giving us feedback, keeping us honest, and giving us a reason to try as hard as we do.
