IT deserves its own day

Dell Canada has launched a petition for a National IT Day, recognizing “the hard-working men and women who keep our IT running — even when nothing else is,” according to a company press release.

Well, after all, there is a National Administrative Assistant Day (formerly Nationals Secretary Day); there's a National Boss Day; there is even, according to this comprehensive and rather absurd list, a National Eight-Track Tape Day. Certainly, IT workers have earned a day of recognition.

In addtion to the petition (sign here),  IT workers can enter to win $20,000 in Dell gear by submitting stories about the challenges they face on a day-to-day basis, or simply an argument for why IT workers deserve a day of recognition. While they're doing that, others can vote for their favourite story and have a chance to win a Dell Inspiron Duo tablet — the funky convertible whose screen rotates in its bezel instead of on a hinge — each month.
