At the Apple World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco agroup called AdultVest Investors, which is made up of girly magazineentrepreneurs and a hedge fund, launched the iPorn mobile Webapplication for the iPhone.
The companyhired bikini clad women, named them the iPorn Bikini Girls, to walk theshow floor shouting: “You could be watching free porn right now.” Likeanyone would really pay for privilege?
The womenentered the exhibit hall throwing mini-footballs and t-shirts. Say whatyou want about the publicity stunt; it worked as conference goerssnapped plenty of photos and more than 35,000 people registered for theiPorn service.
Not that I wantto promote porn, but the iPorn app, according to AdultVest wasdeveloped to take advantage of the iPhone’s multi-touch andaccelerometer motion sensing display capability.
I do not wantto beat a dead horse here, but the porn industry made a name for itselfby being extreme and larger than life. I don’t see the appeal ofwatching porn or iPorn on such a tiny screen.
But noteveryone got swept up in iPorn mania. San Francisco’s finest tried toput a halt to the AdultVest momentum at an after conference party atthe Gold Club.
According toAdultVest, a planned afternoon appearance by the iPorn bikini girls ontheir horse-drawn carriage was abruptly cancelled when the SanFrancisco Police Department tried to revoke the carriage company’slicense, even though a permit was supposedly granted. Later on thatnight, officials from the Gold Club removed all iPorn banners, balloonsand bikinis from the club citing pressure that was placed on them by anunknown group. Sure!
Despite whatanyone may think about the iPorn app or pornography in general, theAdult Entertainment industry is a multi-billion dollar business and itis regulated. That’s right, they pay taxes, employ people and issuebenefits. The industry also has a communicable disease control centrecalled the Adult Industry Medical or AIM clinic. So this iPorn app oniPhone is just another way for this industry or any other industry toexploit their business for profit.
People may get upset by it but how can you stop free enterprise?
