According to Adriane Carr, deputy leader of the Green Party, the party is “staunchly” on the side of Net neutrality. Any barriers to access create “a more privatized flow of information,” and the party would introduce legislation that gives the Web “common carrier status” — prohibited from discriminating and free from content of liability.
She also told IT World Canada the party supports open source technology as a collaborative and innovative approach to software development — and less vulnerable than proprietary software.
Not surprisingly, the Greens also have a strategy for shifting the tax burden onto fossil fuel consumption, but that windfall would go to lower- and middle-income families, seniors and rural residents who would be stung by the increase in fuel costs — not corporations and SMBs.
