Good financial news for 3Com

3Com Corp. today announced it managed to eke out a profit of US $1.8 million during the quarter ending Feb. 27, after two consecutive years of losses.

So far this fiscal year (which started June 1, 2008), the Marlborough, Mass.-based network equipment maker has earned $94.6 million on revenues of just over $1 billion.

During its last fiscal year, which ended May 30, 2008, the company lost $229 million. The year before it lost $88.6 million.

Company officials credited sales in China and its TippingPoint security division with the turnaround.

A year ago, Bain Capital Partners and Huawei tried to buy 3Com but the U.S. government blocked the acquisition.
