Geeks on a plane

Some days, you look for something hilarious, or at least funny, ormildly amusing, or faintly droll, about the IT industry, and there’snot a sausage to be found. But it’s our mandate to amuse, dammit, andamuse we will, even if it means borrowing from the venerable ComputerJokes.net. (These jokes are, to the best of sitemaster Richard Gerald Lowe Jr.’s knowledge, in the public domain.)

Geeks on a plane

At a recent software engineeringmanagement course in the U.S., the participants were given an awkwardquestion to answer: “If you had just boarded an airliner and discoveredthat your team of programmers had been responsible for the flightcontrol software how many of you would disembark immediately?”

Among the ensuing forest of raised hands, only one man sat motionless. When asked what he would do, he repliedthat he would be quite content to stay on board.

With his team’s software, he said, the plane was unlikely to even taxi as far as the runway, let alone take off. (Rim shot.)
