Fancy footwork on LTE

In my years writing about IT companies, I've seen a lot of unusual stunts to liven up meetings. For a few years it was common at big user group conferences to hire gymnasts who before sessions started contorted themselves into various poses to illustrate the software's supposed strength, agility, flexibility and collaboration. Sometimes, if you didn't get the point, those words would be projected on a screen.

On Thursday, Rogers Communications tried something different: A “flash mob” high-stepping away to recorded before the start of its Ottawa LTE press conference. If you read my story, you may be wondering what it looked like. Here's a video snippet:

In they skipped and twirled, then they left. And then for a few minutes there was silence until the execs walked in to make the announcement. One of the PR people said it was supposed to be just a fun intro to an exciting announcement.

You be the judge.
