A 50-year veteran of the Canadian tech industry is being recognized for his contributions to telecommunications.
The Canadian Telecommunications Hall of Fame announced Thursday it will present a career service award to Denzil Doyle, founding president of the Canadian office of Digital Equipment Corp., which was later acquired by Compaq (which in turn is now part of HP).
A former chairman of Capital Alliance Ventures Inc., Doyle cut his teeth when he joined Computing Devices of Canada in 1956. He started up Digital’s Canadian operations in 1963 and operated his own consulting company, Doyletech.
At the height of the tech bubble in 2000, he told Communications & Networking magazine Canada was a “basket case” when it comes to investment in technology.
An officer of the Order of Canada, Doyle has been a director of big name firms such as
Mitel Corp. , Newbridge Networks (now part of Alcatel), Kaval Telecom, Documented Circuits and Rockcliffe Research.
Doyle is scheduled to receive his award Oct. 29., along with Bell Canada veteran, Sal Iacono, who is recognized by the Canadian Telecommunications Hall of Fame for his work with the now-defunct Stentor Alliance.
