CURATED: RIM gets sued

The never-ending game of lawsuit tag in the tech industry claimed another victim. RIM has been targeted by Dutch-based semiconductor company NXP B.V. for infringing on 6 patents owned by the company.

The patents are specific to phone designs and functionality related to transmission of data between devices.

Interestingly, this news comes on the heels of a particularly bad week for RIM, as Jim Balsillie has completely resigned from the board and it reported a significant loss, despite small gains in market share.

The phrase that comes to mind on hearing this is “you can't squeeze blood from a stone”, but I'm not sure why. I guess no patent lawsuit ever comes across as really “just” but this seems like kicking a company when they're already down.
