CURATED: AGO joins Google Art Project

The Art Gallery of Ontario became the first Canadian gallery to join Google's burgeoning Google Art Project, an online home for art online.

The project was started in February of 2011 – with works from the Tate in London and France's Palace of Versailles – to make works of art viewable by web surfers and allow users to zoom in on details of the works on a scale not possible through visiting the museums and galleries themselves. Since then, the Google Art Project has received 20 million visitors in total.

This Tuesday, another 100 partners in 35 countries were announced bringing new works online. The AGO currently has 58 works from its collections featured.
