CCSS creates trusted vendor list

Agrowing trend among cyber criminals is to distribute malware under thedisguise of a legitimate anti-virus softwarevendor.

These rogue anti-virus vendors have actually prompted thecreation of the CommonComputing Security Standards Forum (CCSS). The group toutsitself as a “voluntary organization of security software vendors, operating system providers, and Internet browser software creators, working together to mitigate the risk of malware and protect consumersworldwide.”

Toclear up confusion among online users, the CCSS is working on a comprehensivelist of every legitimate security software vendor on theWeb.

While the idea is a good one, I doubt the organization willreach the casual online users that are most likely to be duped by fakeanti-virus software vendors.
