Bargain computer speakers from Altec Lansing

Altec Lansing Technologies, a division of Plantronics Inc.,announced yesterday a new lineup of budget computer speakers as part ofthe company’s Value Series.

Four models were announced, ranging in price from US$20 to $50.

The BXR1220 is apair of cylindrically-shaped compact satellite speakers with 2-inchfull range drivers. The US$19.95 set connects via USB and doesn’trequire an external power source.

Add a subwoofer to the BXR1220 and you have the three-piece BXR1221 system, priced at US$29.95.

The VS260 is a pair of mini-towers with 3-inch full range drivers, priced at US$29.95.

But the flagshipmodel is the VS2621 three-piece 2.1 subwoofer-satellite combination.Priced at US$49.95, the system provides 93 dB of sound pressure and aresponse range between 45 Hz – 18 kHz.

The twotrapezoid-shaped satellite speakers include 2-inch full range drivers,an auxillary-in jack and two dials for volume and tone control. Thesubwoofer has a 4-inch side-firing driver.

The two BX series models are available immediately at Altec Lansing’s site, Wal-mart, Amazon and major consumer electronics retailers. The VS series will become available mid-May.
