Xerox Canada teams up with Athabasca University

Xerox Canada and the distance learning-based Athabasca University have joined forces to sponsor research that will explore mobile and e-learning options for students located in remote and rural areas.

The school will receive $250,000 from the company to develop distance education program technology and support a research chair in learning technologies.

The research will focus on ways to mobile devices like mP3 players and PDAs to deliver course material.

The funding will also cover mobile and e-learning applications for rural Northern Alberta elementary and secondary school students dealing with declining enrolment and small decentralized schools struggling with the traditional educational model.
