Who cares if Microsoft listens to my Skype calls?

Is Skype secure or not? That’s been a hot question in the last month (see here for example) as certain comments from owner Microsoft Corp. leave it up in the air about whether the company merely co-operates with law enforcement agencies or has opened up Skype communications in some other way.

In this piece, commentator and sometime CTO Mark Gibbs shrugs and says, essentially, ‘If you’re not doing anything illegal, who cares?’  You don’t know if there’s a back door to Windows, he argues, or your browser. Yet few organizations get paranoid about it.
If nothing else his column should get you thinking about privacy and how far government should go.
