IT organizations should hold off until 2009 to begin moving their critical workload over to Windows Server 2008, according to a new Burton Group report.
The Midvale, UT-based research firm advised enterprises to wait until next year for the upgrade to allow time for third-party application vendors to release their products to the new platform. Richard Jones, vice-president and service director at Burton, said that waiting until 2009 will also allow Server 2008 to prove itself in live-deployment environments, in addition to giving IT managers an opportunity to train their staff on the new features with the operating system.
For IT departments looking to migrate some of their systems to the new platform, Jones said IT managers should select non-critical training workloads as a starting point.
