What A CIO Should Know is a monthly look at great blog posts, videos and events that should be on the agenda of chief information officers.
The CIO Association of Canada has set a date for its annual Peer Forum, which will be taking place April 7-8 in Vancouver. The theme will be: The CIO Imperative: Creating C-Level Synergy. More details:

The Northeast Ohio Software Association’s annual CIO Symposium in mid-November ended with a survey of participants around spending priorities. Although the content requires registration, roughly 70 per cent say they expect their budgets to increase in 2011.

 
Forbes magazine’s CIO Central blog recently featured a guest post from longtime industry analyst Ray Wang titled “Why The CIO Role is under fire,” which does a great job of offering a sense of key IT executive challenges.
Popular blogger Robert “Scobleizer” Scoble recently filmed a breakfast interview with Starbucks CIO Stephen Gillet, who provided a tour of the organization’s network operations (approx. 8 minutes).

In one of the more high-profile hirings this quarter, Bloomberg BusinessWeek reported the appointment of Toby Eduardo Renshaw as the new CIO for American Express, beginning in January.
