I hope I’m not the millionth person to write about the article “‘War driving’ is becoming the latest hacker pastime” in the August 24, 2001 edition of ComputerWorld Canada (page 1).
Maybe I’ll be the first to advise you that WEP stands for Wired Equivalent Privacy in 802.11b context. However, I think your choice of wireless encryption protocol makes a lot more sense.
I believe the reader of this article is falsely left with the impression that 802.11b allows bypassing of all security. Someone engaging in “war driving” would have no more and no less access than if they were able to plug their network card into a network port inside the building. I doubt there are many organizations that don’t have at least user ID and password security to access their servers.
