Vancouver firm patents anti-piracy technology

A Vancouver company has won a patent from the U.S. agency that governs intellectual property for a system to distribute digital content. Protexis said it was issued U.S. Patent No. 7,200,760 by the U.S.Patent and Trademark Office.

The U.S. has also approved the claims of a forthcoming patent that expand the company’s patent holdings surrounding its product activation-based system of copy protection, digital rights management, electronic licensing, and e-commerce services for software and digital content. In total, 11 patents are pending, Protexis said.

The intellectual property includes technology that allows publishers of digital content, such as software firms, to market and licence software without fear of piracy.
