Unisys pushes packaged server solutions

Unisys Corp. unveiled Monday its new ES7000 packaged server solutions series, offerings the Blue Bell, Pa.-based IT service and solutions provider said are designed to boost database servers deployment within larger enterprises.

The pre-configured Windows- and Intel-based “ready-to-run” database solutions combine software, hardware, storage and services, Unisys said.

Unisys will partner with Microsoft, Intel, Brocade, EMC, NetIQ and Veritas to offer the solutions packaged for select workloads, a Web-based sizing tool, and services for database assessment, implementation and management.

Unisys said the database server-sizing tool allows users to track information regarding transactional workload, system type, storage and availability requirements.

The company has also assembled a set of ready-to-run packaged database server solutions which are available in both cluster-ready and non-clustered configurations, Unisys said. The packages include server, software, networking, storage, services and back-up for a range of user workloads.

The solutions allow users to roll out database solutions faster than if they had assembled the necessary components piece by piece, Unisys said. As well, the configuration profiles are designed to handle from 7,000 to 27,000 concurrent users and from 1TB to 9TB of storage.

“This is not just a bag of tinker toys,” said analyst Rich Partridge for Port Chester, N.Y.-based D.H. Brown Associates Inc. in a statement. “Unisys has done the work to provide a total solution tuned to optimize the performance of large Windows-based database servers.”
