I read with interest the article “Engineer bridges gap between telescopes and roller coasters” in ComputerWorld Canada’s October 5 issue (page 4).
However, I wonder whether David Halliday really meant that going to 20 or 30 metre telescopes is a “quantum leap” from previous designs.
A quantum is a unit, the smallest amount of something which changes in steps. For example: the quantum of Canadian money is one cent. Thus, a quantum leap is a tiny change, not a big one.
