Telus Mobility and Research in Motion (RIM) Ltd. Monday announced their intention to offer RIM’s BlackBerry platform to enterprise clients across Canada using Telus’ CDMA2000 1x wireless network.
“Our clients are eager to take advantage of the wireless e-mail, voice communications, text messaging, Web access and personal productivity applications available on RIM’s BlackBerry handhelds,” said Robert Blumenthal, vice-president, products and services, Telus Mobility, in a prepared statement.
While the date of deployment has yet to be determined, a spokesperson for Telus Mobility, based in Toronto, said it would be supported within the first half of 2003.
RIM, based in Waterloo, Ont., introduced its Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA2000) 1x voice-enabled handheld – the BlackBerry 6750 – in December of last year. The offering will also be supported on Bell Canada’s 1x wireless network in the first quarter of this year.
Last October, RIM introduced two other voice-enabled handhelds – the BlackBerry 6710 and 6720 – that operate on GSM/GPRS wireless networks, and are supported in Canada by Rogers AT&T Wireless.
