Sun re-brands software portfolio

In an effort to streamline its marketing efforts, Sun Microsystems Inc. has re-branded its product lines iPlanet, Forte, StarOffice and Chili!Soft, bringing them all under the Sun Open Net Environment – or Sun ONE – brand, the company announced Monday.

The Santa Clara, California, company will this week begin a global marketing campaign to heighten the profile of the new brand, Sun said in a statement.

Sun did not disclose any financial details of the re-branding campaign.

Products getting the Sun ONE face-lift include:

– Sun ONE Web Server, formerly the iPlanet Web Server;

– Sun ONE Portal Server, formerly the iPlanet Portal Server;

– Sun ONE Application Server, formerly the iPlanet Application Server;

– Sun ONE Directory Server, formerly the iPlanet Directory Server;

– Sun ONE Identity Server, formerly the iPlanet Directory Server, Access Management Edition;

– Sun ONE Messaging Server, formerly the iPlanet Messaging Server;

– Sun ONE Calendar Server, formerly the iPlanet Calendar Server;

– Sun ONE Integration Server, formerly iPlanet Integration Server;

– Sun ONE Studio, formerly Forte Tools For Java;

– Sun ONE Active Server Pages, formerly Chili!Soft ASP.

Beginning next month, Sun will also make available Version 6.0 of StarOffice 6.0 Office Suite — A Sun ONE software offering. This includes word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, the company said.
